I was following along in the Mennonite Adult Bible study quarterly and the lesson for February 15 was on 2 Peter 2. Verse 16, in the King James Version, refers to the story of Balaam and his, um, donkey. It includes this classic phrase:
… the dumb ass speaking with man’s voice forbad the madness of the prophet.
Comments?

Yeah, butt was he speaking Hebrew? ;)
Grace and peace be with you.
If only we could locate a pre-Counsel of Laodicea version of The Hebrew cannon, or even pre-Greek before politicians put their slant on The Word.
After discovering that old man Rothschild had a hand in translating The Dead Sea Scrolls, I can’t even trust their authenticity.
Only that that story is one my hubs loves…in his mind I was the donkey who’d never led him wrong and when I wanted us to seek Christ he beat me…well not really just verbally wondered why I wanted to seek after Christ…..and when he saw himself as Balaam he realized how the word really speaks to us now….
The Pistol fires back: Nice story. Thanks for sharing.
You know, maybe the KJV was more forward-looking in its language than we thought.
After all, there certainly are many such things speaking with men’s voices.
I think it makes sense in the context of the chapter – the ass was dumb until it spoke.
But wouldn’t it be great to have one’s madness forbidden?
