Elijah replied, “I have been very zealous for the LORD God Almighty. The Israelites have rejected your covenant, broken down your altars, and put your prophets to death with the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too.” (1 Kings 19:10)
He has done all he could to be a faithful messenger of the Lord and where has it gotten him? Alone, hiding in a cave, a death warrant on his life. Little wonder he wants to give up.
At times, even when we do our best to be faithful to God, to follow Christ, things don’t work out as we would hope. People who are determined to turn away from God and follow the ways of the world feel threatened by those who try to remain faithful. It can be a lonely and dangerous road to follow the Lord.
Elijah is so discouraged in his loneliness that he begins to think he would be better off dead. He sees no one who might offer him companionship to encourage him to carry on his task.
Yet I reserve seven thousand in Israel – all whose knees have not bowed down to Baal and all whose mouths have not kissed him. (1 Kings 19:18)
Sometimes when we feel we’re most alone, God reminds us that there are others going through the same thing we are. It’s just that in the darkness of our despair, we fail to see it.

“Having a Great Time, Wish I Were Dead”

Thanks Pete
often times i feel alone as well. due to my self diagnosed social anxiety and depression i find myself casting my lot with those who do and act in a way that i find unacceptable. this feeling of hypocrasy on serves to feed my mental torment further. truer words have never been spoken than the sould is willing but the flesh is weak? and the what i want to do i do not and what i do not want to do i do?
