God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground.” (Genesis 1:28)
We were created in the image of God and given a job to do. Our job is to care for creation, to be God’s stewards, to see that God’s gift of life flourishes within and beyond our lifetimes.
God has given us the tools (bodies, minds) and resources (time, talent, money) to do our job well. Still, we sometimes opt to sit back and let God take care of things rather than get busy doing what God expects us to do. To honor God is more than just marveling at his works. It is working along with Him.

“If God gives you a watch, are you honoring Him more by asking Him what time it is or by simply consulting the watch?
